Professor Deniz ÜNSALAN was born in 1953 at İzmir, Turkiye. He started Turkish Naval High School in 1967 and Turkish Naval Academy in 1979. He graduated from the Turkish Naval Academy in 1973, followed by two years of professional courses and on-the-job training. Attending to U.S. Naval Postgraduate School’s Naval Engineering programme between 1977-80, he obtained the degrees Master of Science and Mechanical Engineer. He attended to the Marine Technology program of Newcastle University between 1982-84. He taught at Naval Technical Training Center at Derince, Turkey between 1982-84 and at Turkish Naval Academy between 1987-94. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree from the School of Graduate Sciences of İstanbul Technical University, in the field of Naval Architecture. He taught at İstanbul Technical University, Near East University, Dokuzeylül University, Piri Reis University. He retired from Dokuzeylül University in 2020. He lectured at Naval Academy of Qatar for two semesters and has been teaching at the University of Kyrenia since 2021.
