International students graduated from the Maritime Studies of the University of Kyrenia have the opportunity to work easily in the world fleets and work as selected personnel in the Turkish Maritime Fleet. The number of students who prefer the University of Kyrenia to get a maritime engineer diploma from countries that are devoted to maritime affairs but are not recognized as a “white flag” state is increasing day by day. The Faculty of Maritime Studies at the University of Kyrenia is accepted as one of the best 68 maritime academies in the world, and graduates from the internationally recognized Marine Engineering and Maritime Transportation Management Engineering departments increase every year. Examples of having a standout career among international students are noteworthy. One of them is Prince Sogbeye Jim-Lawson, who graduated with high honors from the Department of Marine Engineering in the Fall semester of 2016-2017 with an average of 3.24. Jimmy Lawson currently works for Akar Denizcilik in Turkiye and lives in the house in Istanbul which he bought with the money he earned by working at sea. He has a a temporary resident permit and as a pre-identity card holder in Turkey. Coordinated by the Department of Marine Engineering and brought into contact with foreign fleets by the Marine Student Career Centre (MSSC), the students are praised as sought-after personnel of the maritime world. Other exemplary students are Lisa Waithera Nduta and Joy Stella Oyeneyi who are currently on board to do their 6-month long-term sea-going internship with Turkish sailors. Working on board indiscriminately from male sailors, Lisa and Stella is praised by the ship’s management for their success at their assistant watch-keeping duties.
